Maybe it’s 80-degree air without the humidity here in South Florida but things got quite active here in the month of October! A few things to talk about this month so let’s jump right in!
From Ashe Vol. 12
In the last update, I said that I was going to probably start writing the volume. Here we are one month later and the entire book has been written and is sitting in second draft which means not only did I write the book, I did the first major editing pass on it! Even further, I finished the art commission sheet for Alex and he already sent me the sketch for the front cover! I’d say that things are moving along pretty smoothly! The only things left to do is a final readthrough and assemble the book in InDesign once all of the art pieces come in! I know that’s quite a short paragraph to summarize an entire month’s worth of work but that’s how it typically goes.
My Regularly Scheduled Life on Royal Road
Part of the plans I talked about was to revamp My Regularly Scheduled Life next year; however, I did a lot of thinking on it and decided to leave the story as-is. So, I decided to offer it up for free for anyone to read on Royal Road. The biggest reason why I decided to go this route is because I intended to transform the story into aligned with the bonus chapter that I want to do in From Ashe Vol 12 titled A Porcelain Menagerie. I was going to try and turn it into an Inio Asano-style story. So, rather than revamping the book as a whole, I’m going to test the waters with the shortened version of it in From Ashe. I mean, if it works out, I might turn that into a 1-shot.

So… That Project…
Yeah. Since August, I’ve been talking about a project but it keeps running into snags. While the foundation of the project is off the ground, the part I need to play a role in it isn’t. I was hoping that I would have a positive update but now they are saying an additional month for the part that I need to participate. So… with two delays now, this is the last I’m going to speak on it until it’s ready to go and I get everything set up. I probably won’t even mention it in another project update but rather just make a separate post, plus an eblast for those on my mailing list (You might want to join that!). I will say that this project is out of my hands, though. I’m just a partner in it… all the work is being done externally so I am reliant on them to get it done and give me the tools to make my part happen. I guess in due time.
Another Project
OMG, Enough with the projects! Okay… fine… but this one IS going to get completed on time. I know this because I already did all of the work on my end and submitted it. This one will launch in December (more specifically December 1). The biggest decision I have to make is whether or not to include it in next month’s progress update or to do a separate news post. I know… tough decisions… but someone has to make them around here and since I’m the only one who works at Meteora Press, I guess that someone has to be me no matter what! But yeah…. something good is cooking!
And Yet… Another Pro… Decision
Ah, snarky headlines. Kidding aside, I am making an announcement regarding the future of From Ashe. I looked through my story notes and what’s to come and did some thinking about what’s left to write about. As I’ve stated, Volume 13 is the final part of the second major story arc. From there, Ashe will then transition into a new chapter of her life. Beyond that, I don’t have much in the way of major story points and I thought about making new ones; however, at that point, I would just be artificially extending the series. With that being said, I decided that Arc 3 will be the final story arc of From Ashe. While I don’t know how long it will take that arc to complete, my guess is the series will end either from Volume 17 through Volume 19.
I originally figured 20 volumes for the series and, who knows? Maybe I’ll go off on a tangent that just works very well and it ends up reaching the 20th volume. I did end up tossing some stuff onto the cutting room floor throughout the series already because I thought it was useless fluff and that’s something I don’t want to add on purpose just to get to the number 20. So, I’m just going to go through the final arc as planned just as I have with the first two arcs, and see where it goes. Even if it ends on the later side of things (18 or 19), that’s still relatively close to the original number I thought I would reach… so it’s not like this is coming out of left field or coming to an abrupt conclusion.
I already decided how the series would end a while ago and thinking about how the third arc is structured, it will make the transition into the ending seem rather smooth. That’s another thing, too… I didn’t want to add a fourth arc and have the ending just seem out of place. I think with the way I have it in mind, this next arc is the one to do it in. Depending on how fast I can work, From Ashe COULD end as early as December 2025 but, most likely, probably mid-2026. We’ll see how it goes. Still too far out to truly say for sure at this point.

Another note I wanted to make is that this month is my 7-year anniversary since publishing my first light novel! Final Hope Vol. 1 came out back in November of 2017 and now, here I am 7 years later with 31 books written, 30 of which are published!
